In It to Win It

You’ve had a dream of what you want to achieve. You’ve assessed your values and beliefs which guide your behavior. You’ve observed your routines and skills to bridge your dreams to reality. You’re writing a new chapter in your life story and want, so very much, to grow to the heights of your fresh ambitions.

When you’re on the road to achieving new goals, it’s imperative to have a daily check-in system to keep you moving towards your goal. Be it a friend who is a great observer and understands what you’re trying to accomplish or do it yourself with a journal or chart and write it down!

Record your tasks and results. Here you will draw a map of your journey and it’s your job to consistently evaluate your actions. This evaluation helps you stay on track towards completing your mission.

As you review your daily results, see what actions make your tasks easier and more positive. Spend more time on these activities which help you to be more productive. This builds-up positive feelings and adds momentum to your journey. A choice such as this will create an environment that’s successfully moving forward and allows less time for any negative thoughts or actions. It’s a much better use of your energy.

Be aware that you will most likely need to make modifications to your actions and routines in both your personal and professional worlds to reach your objective. Write down any complications or frustrations that arise so you get a more holistic view of how your adventure is impacting your entire world. It may be a simple tweak such as: time management, organization, or finding a source to learn new skills.

Reflect on efforts that end in dissatisfaction or interfere with you performing efficiently and accurately. Here it’s important to make adjustments. Don’t redo the same action which brought you undesirable results, try new. Try different.

Take notice of the exciting feelings that accompany beginning a new challenge. Enjoy the stimulation and satisfaction in pursuing new challenges, feel the pride in accomplishing new tasks, and acknowledge the validation that comes with the growth you’re experiencing. It’s the rewarding part of the trial. Use it to reinforce your determination.

Struggle and failure is par for the course. Don’t give in. Don’t give up. Inc. magazine cited a study by University of Scranton that said “92% of people that set New Year’s goals never actually achieve them.” This is one of the most blatant, largest scale and most public displays of mass goal setting we see. A tradition. So, if 92% don’t reach their goals at the most inspiring time, how will you ever succeed?

Find a group with common goals or a consultant to help you through the early stages when most people give in. Stay committed to your great idea or new career or new lifestyle. You’re on your way and when you get there, you get the opportunity to experience the exhilaration of reaching your potential.

Challenges, feelings of discouragement and fatigue are all part of the process, but they’re never reasons to step out of the game. In fact, they’re just proof that you’re seriously invested in it, so take a deep breath, modify where you must and get back in there for the win!
